He loves it, he loves it not

The is 'B' and if you remember correctly I put a lot of yawning pictures up of him a while back. Well, this is him, not yawning and looking like a stud. We got a lot of variety even though he didn't like having to change so many times. You can't get the senior girls to stop changing into their whole wardrobe they bring. Senior boys only change because their moms are forcing them. Thanks you Mom for being so awesome on this shoot and for raising such a sweet guy. You guys were great!

This was the very first shot we took. I was driving down to our first location and looked in my rear view mirror at all the fog...to die for. He thought I was crazy for making him jump into the middle of the road. Craziness pays off sometimes. We got a couple more really cool ones out of this location.

Who we attract...

The journey to wholeness requires that you look honestly, openly and with courage into yourself, into the dynamics that lie behind what you feel, what you perceive, what you value, and how you act. It is a journey through your defenses and beyond so that you can experience consciously the nature of your personality, face what it has produced in your life, and choose to change that.
Whether you explain it with the saying, Opposites attract or Like draws like, there is something mystical about the way we attract people into our lives. There is a divine setup working that ensures we attract the people who will cause us to take a deeper look at ourselves. The people we are attracted to and who are attracted to us are the ones who volunteer to help us heal our unseen wounds.
I love everything about these quotes from Gary Zukav, and they especially make me thing of someone in my life.

As many of you know this girl means the world to me. It becomes more and more clear why we drawn into each other's lives (and maybe even more confusing as we try to define it). She makes me want to be a better person, photographer, mother, and most importantly, a better friend. I have learned so much from having her in my life and I treasure every piece of it. The picture above is a picture that I took at Jesh's workshop that I thought was ironic because I put a nice label on her as being a "closed book". The picture below was a self portrait that blows my label away and opened my eyes a bit more to who she is without the labels from me. It says she's strong (clearly indicated by her huge bicep) and in fact, open...yet guarded. She is Shannon...no labels...no perceptions...just Shannon. Love ya. Thank you for your friendship and for being "my mirror" last night.
Don't you just love the "ideal communication" sign above your head. We weren't allowed to talk at all during this shoot, but we found ideal communication anyway:)

Just thought I would add one more because she's so hot.

SAMEUNDERNEATH

When Jake and I were out shopping we met the owner and creator of this amazing clothing line, Sameunderneath. You have to check out his site and read about his mission. He is full of passion, drive, and his clothes are so damn soft. It was really great to hear him tell his story and be able to see ourselves in his shoes. We are still truckin' along with Deep3 and our story is very similar. We believe so much in Deep3 and the message of "living life beyond..." we know it will take off one of these days when Jake can put his whole heart into it. I don't usually buy gear that screams logos like this, but I really believe in what this clothing line is all about. This is a limited edition hoodie that Ryan designed for Portland, that I fell in love with. You have to go check out his line at the store on NW 23rd.
I forgot to mention that I topped my lovely weekend off with a family shoot that I have wanted to do for quite a while. The kids got to be the photographers and we all got to be the silliest people that we could muster. Jake and I always make fun of each other's fingers when we dance. I snap a lot, so he says it looks like I dance with my thumbs in the air...whatever! His dance that I captured made the cut for a canvas in the house and Christmas card fun, so I can't show it yet. I'd say that we might both want to be a little more conscience of our extremities in our dancing future:)
Tré took this shot. He is all about direction. There were many times that he was so caught up giving us directions that he would miss the shot. Clearly, Jalena has been taking notes from watching me, because she is an Over-Shooter. The lights couldn't even recycle fast enough when she was shooting. This was Jake and I waiting for Tré to get the kiss...clearly he missed the romantic kiss that was right before this one:)

Dream Weekend

I love our life! At the end of the day, we are happy, healthy, in love and our life is beyond blessed. Some might think that the dream weekend would consist of being whisked away on a jet plane to somewhere exotic. It doesn't take much for us to get excited about a weekend. Our dream weekend consists of our dear friend Jacque, overnight bags, and no agenda! I surprised Jake for his birthday this weekend with an overnight stay in a hotel. O.K. so I did the same thing for him last year, but it was just as amazing this year. We stayed in the sister hotel of our hotel last year (Lucîa) and it was even better...Hotel deLuxe .
The decor was right up my alley and it took everything in me not to snag this to die for chair!
Then we ate a flawless dinner at Ruth's Chris where we ran into the Dallas Maveick's team. Jake and I watched the boys eating a lonely dinner with a rep smoozing them and thought that our life could have been just that. We both agreed that we felt blessed to have exactly what we have now instead of him being on the road without us. This was a really cool wall that lit up when you walked by it. Entertaining:)
The next morning we went shopping around downtown Portland together. There was nothing to do but hold hands, talk about whatever came to mind, and spending money...I'd call that a day!
As if the weekend wasn't enough, we topped it off with a night at the movies with the kids. I love our movie nights because the kids get so excited and we all had a blast.
I just want to thank Jacque for giving us the gift of LOVE. She got me this amazing quote book called Brilliance, Uncommon voices from uncommon women. There was just the perfect quote for her from us...."You have not lived a perfect day, even though you have earned you money, unless you have done something for someone who will never be able to repay you." Jacque and Christina continue to give us this gift of love that I just don't know that I could ever repay. I love you girls and you mean the world to us!

Passion

Today I told me sister that I was feeling the need to blog about passion. Her response..."not again"! I can't help it, and especially right now when I am overflowing with it. I have been trying for weeks to get a grasp on all these emotions and desire for change. The last aspect of my life that I thought the San Diego workshop would effect the most, was my relationship with my hubby. Many times we go through life without having moments of sustenance. We rehash (as Jesh calls it) information back and forth to each other ((ie, "how are you doing" "fine, "how are you"). Most of the time, we just go through the motions in our conversations (with everyone around us) just scratching the surface in our passing conversations. When was the last time you actually walked up to someone and asked them how they were, really meant it, and then waited in excitement for the answer? So when Jake and I get into our rehashing mode with each other, sometimes for days, it takes its toll. We start to miss each other even though we are in the same room. Neither of us want to get trapped into the life of rehashing our days to one another, saying 'I love you' and not feeling the impact of the words, or going days without 'seeing' each other. By 'seeing' I mean looking right at them and thinking about nothing else but who they are, what they smell like, or has anything changed about them? You have to hear each other. What do they desire in life, what are they missing, what are they feeling? What did we come up with the other night when we 'saw' each other for the first time in a week? I'm an over-thinker, he's a doer, we're wried differently and we are attempting to cross wires daily:)
If something isn't going right, he looks at what he can do to fix it right now. I start looking at the reasons of how we got there, did I have a part in it, and now what do I do. One of the valuable pieces of knowledge that I grabbed onto from Jesh was the definition of Buddhism (that it's not really defined as a religion, but a way of life). The motto that I have been focusing on the last week is "one thing at a time". When my mind starts racing with over-thinker thoughts, I try to focus on the here and now. What sounds are around me, what do I see, what am I currently doing? This week I have been thinking much more clearly because I am keeping it simple.
So back to passion....I've got a lot of it! I love that Jesh opened my eyes to a whole new world of new feelings, emotions, and awareness. I love Jake for opening my eyes to the simple things and for continuing to b my safe place to understand myself. Each time that things get crazy in my life and I feel like I'm not juggling everything well, he just brings me back to the NOW. When I am totally connected to him (mind, body and soul), everything else seems to fall into place. I know that I am doing an amazing job as a mother. I am having clear thought on direction of my business. I am very excited for the future of Heaven's Eye and all the doors that it will continue to open for me. I am ecstatic that I have amazing kids that love me for me. And I am blessed to have someone by my side that loves me unconditionally and keeps the passion ignited in me. So here's to passion...go get it!
These pictures were taken by a fellow workshop attendee that wanted to feel the power (o.k. weight) of my camera. Thanks for the great shots Heather! I am going to have to brainstorm on passion topics that I can keep bringing up so that the posts don't have to be this long each time I feel like this. I leave you with this..."ONE THING AT A TIME"

I'm not mad at'cha...

Multiple choice question for ya...
A. This senior was out until 3am the night before his big picture day
B. He was completely bored with the whole idea.
C. All the above :)
You know you are on a senior shoot when there is a lot of yawning, and or texting going on! I can't be sure that 'B' had a good time with this whole senior shoot thing, but I had fun trying to get one smile out of him that didn't look programmed. Thanks for the challenge and now the self doubt on whether I can bring out the inner being out of every client! 'B' these pictures are your payback for staying out too late. I will post gorgeous ones of him soon. He may not have liked the camera, but the camera loved him!

This should say it all. This was at the end of the shoot and I thought I would try to make the "I'm a fool picture" complete. I know he loved the whole experience deep down:) I know I enjoyed meeting him and his sweet, sweet mom! Thanks guys.

Princesses on Ice Night

Last night I got to do something very special with My Girl. One of our wonderful neighbors has three girls and she is always on top of planning things for her girls. We were fortunate enough to jump in on one of her plans to go to Princesses on Ice. Four of Jalena's friends went and they all dresses in Princess outfits. We went to dinner at Red Robin first and the girls felt like movie stars the way everyone was staring at them and commenting on the "beautiful princesses" in their dresses! This was Jalena the whole time (below)...some parts were a little scary (Sleeping Beauty story was a little dark with the fire-breathing dragon). I always have to tell her not to bite her nails...I'm pretty sure she doesn't have any left this morning. Best skating award goes to Ariel and Flounder.
This was our favorite story because of the cute constumes and our favorite music.
I love this shot because it is priceless to me because it tells an enchanted story. Little 'E' is in amazement of the moment and her Mom is being brought right back to childhood with a smile of bliss on her face. I was just as happy as Jalena to watch all the amazing performers and getting caught up in the Disney moment!
This was Jalena's favorite part in the finale. The fireworks were unexpected and very exciting!
The start of our night. What a fun night to experience with my daughter. A night of awakening my imagination, making a memory for my daughter, and embracing the little girl inside me:) Thanks Little Lou, I love you.

What in the world...

are we doing with Sara France? After the workshop Sara offered for Shannon and I to have a slumber party with her at her place. I was excited because I was staying an extra day to chill in San Diego and this way I had a tour guide. I was also fortunate enough to see my very good friend Shyla (blog). She drove 3 hours to see me after she just got off the airplane from New York. What a trooper and it meant the world to me. What else do you do in San Diego except try on wigs at a wig shop. I was looking for a Amy Winehouse hive and instead Shannon and Sara found new hairstyles to try out. The next night Shannon took off and The three of us (Sara, Shyla and me) went out to my first ever, Sushi night at RA (to die for)! Then we went out to a night club and danced the night away...oh and looked at slutty outfits that people were wearing for Halloween. I had a ton of fun and thank you Shyla for being a trooper..I know you were so tired. Sara, thank you for being the perfect host and letting me be a part of your beautiful world. It was so awesome to go through the workshop with you and to get to know you.
Safety first...had to put protection on before she tried on wigs. This is the hairstyle that was the favorite to emulate the color. I think Shannon should try these colors out.

Sara's dog, Bodie, was hysterical. She opened up the sun roof on the way to the airport and I thought he would just stick his nose out. He sticks his whole head out and flips his hair around like he is some sort of Greek God.
This is him coming back down with his hair all frazzled. Shannon swears that he is a cat trapped in a dog body because all he did was lie around like a feline while we were there.
A fun time was had by all and I am sure that you'll meet both of their alter egos soon that they developed while trying on new styles:)

Jesh De Rox ROCKS!

Where do I even begin? I have started this blog 4 times and the simple words that I am coming up with to describe the experience are not even close to doing any justice! In fact, this time around isn't going to be any different. I think I will just keep jotting down random thoughts relating to this journey and maybe some of it will make sense at some point. I told Jake that I would have to explain the details over the next month and I would refer to things that Jesh said as Jeshisms. This is a picture of Jesh reading out of the "book of Jesh" (this was just a joke, don't go looking to buy his book:).
There were so many details that I can't goo into explanation about because he asked us to keep some of the details a mystery so that he could use similar ideas in other workshops and keep them a surprise for others as well. There was a self portrait project that we did and this was mine below. I wanted to capture the way a shot coming into the workshop, hidden behind the camera. And the way I want to shoot more like, which is open and connecting to the people that I am capturing. Since the workshop I have been thinking a lot about labels that we so easily put on one other and things just so that we can understand them. Labels be-gone and hello connections. Before I go on and on about this experience you have to check out some of the sites of the people that were significant to this journey with me. What an amazing group of people, oh yeah, and they were amazing photographers too! Lots more to come on this trip. Wait until you see the wig day I had with Shannon and Sara France!!!!

More Halloween Outtakes

These are some more outtakes from Halloween that I just thought you should see. This first one is of the boys warming up their lungs and perfecting their performance for the night. The next one is self explanatory with the Ping Pong action. FYI...these movies take forever to load!!! The last one is of Jamie on Halloween day and he was just being really cute telling a story about a witches tower. I think he had his own ideas about what Halloween was really going to be about. He was relieved to see what trick-or-treating really was and that it didn't involve monsters. His eyebrows are so Jake's!

San Diego Fun

Before I get all deep and emotional with my posts, I thought I would share some fun posts. Here are some shots from the first day in San Diego. Everything in Shannon told her that we were driving the wrong direction and that we should turn around. She said "it's like we are driving into Armageddon". There was nothing but blue sky behind us and we were driving right into the chaos. The fires were crazy and it rained ash on us the entire time. A couple of the workshop attendees had been evacuated from their homes, but everything turned out fine for them. I looked for any kind of sign to tell me that I shouldn't go to San Diego at the airport..I even lost my ID and it mysteriously appeared at my gate right before take-off (I am still baffled by that one). Shannon and I walked down to the beach and checked out the scene right when we got to The Image is Found Studio because we were too early. We didn't feel right doing a shoot, but we found some fun places to go back to one day! This is my rendition of Bay Watch.
Driving right into the wall of ash!
Even their dumpsters were amazing to shoot by.
Can you even imagine a shoot by this craziness. I decided I am just going to start taking pictures of the places that I imagine shoots even if I can't do one there. We ran out of time and I was burned out mentally to do any kind of shoot after the workshop.

Kids Halloween

Growing up in Alaska and Trick-or-Treating in below zero weather was always a trick! We would wear costumes that made us look like the Stay-Puffed marshmallow Man because of all the layers we had on. Or we would have to put layers on top so you wouldn't even be able to tell that we were wearing costumes. Did I mention that the houses were all on acreage so we would have to rive to each one of snow machine if it were warm enough. It's like Christmas for me T.O.T in this NW weather...I tried to take the kids to about 30 houses last year just because we could. This year I had a volleyball game that interfered and when I got back, I was a little disappointed in Jake's loot that he brought back. I think the kids had at least 15 more houses in them:) Although, I did have Jamie drugged up for his cold so he almost feel asleep and the tough boxer cried most of the way:( The kids had a blast and I love seeing them get so excited about holidays because it brings me right back to my own childhood.

Adult Halloween

We were invited to a halloween party this year and were told to dress like a rockstar of any kind. Jake and I were a little hesitant as you can well imagine. Many of you that know that for Jake and I, Halloween is a "special" time of the year. Lets see...Tré is a product of a hot witch and I can't even remember what Jake was (I think he dressed in drag). Jalena is a product of Angelina and Denis Rodman. And Jamison...I'll have to research that one, I can't remember (obviously had way too muh fun with those characters to remember). Well, there will be no Amy Winehouse and D#%k-in-a-box baby this year! I think we figured out this whole baby thing finally seeing how all our kids were conceived around the same time. We had a hysterical night out nonetheless, at one of our friends and these pictures are compliments of Amy Hall (Sporty Spice below). Jake and Josh played the rolls to the tee and they were even very impressive playing ping pong with their boxes at one point(video to come possibly). Thanks for the fun night had by all and here's to being content and blessed with our 3 little angels sent straight from Halloween. I don't know if I could have handled conceiving a Wino-baby!
Two other Amy Winehouse impostors showed up at the party with their brilliant ideas as well. I would say that I was the only one that looked like the true train wreck that she is. They were both way too put together. To all you that still think any of the tattoos were real...I have to thank my tattoo artist Jake for all of his amazing talent, but none of them are real (at least none of the visible ones were real). If you were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of "the crack of dawn" that night, that is the only real one:)
There were also two other versions that showed up of this brilliant idea as well. But, Jake and Josh were superior in this category and they took home the grand prize that night for best costumes.
For your viewing pleasure. Thanks Amy.
